The Guardians of Diversity
Scientists often bemoan the loss of agricultural biodiversity and raise alarm bells about what this will mean to our ability to grow and eat food in the future. While this is right and true—we face many tough challenges—we would do well to remember the many people around the world who have devoted their lives to safeguarding diversity in all of its forms—human, cultural and agricultural. This diversity gives meaning to our lives. In the case of agricultural biodiversity, it literally keeps us alive.
The Guardians of Diversity include farmers, community activists, scientists and scholars. Here are their stories.
